font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">We welcome you to Another Way\u2019s Men\u2019s Halfway House.\u00a0 All of the staff is happy that you are here and hope that your experience with us will be a good one.\u00a0 Since we are a halfway house, we will be asking you to work on independence and your recovery.\u00a0 This is learning to live life on life\u2019s terms, and, as you know, that is not always easy.\u00a0 As a halfway house, we are different\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 from many of the other treatment facilities you may have been involved in.\u00a0 We are called Another Way for a reason.\u00a0 We will offer some structured time, but there will be times that will not be as structured as an inpatient facility.\u00a0 This is intentional.\u00a0 We want to give you the chance to create structure for yourself, find independence and to develop a recovery program based on what you want, not what we think you want.\u00a0 Of course, we stress the importance of working the steps and finding a sponsor.\u00a0 That is fundamental to recovery.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">You are now a member of a new community.\u00a0 There will be times that you will have conflicts and joy with the men who share this house.\u00a0 Keep in mind that you are all here for one another, that to gain respect is to give respect.\u00a0 The staff hopes that you and the community will work together in developing a healthy recovery environment.\u00a0 If there is anything that you need, please ask any staff member.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">I am going to a Halfway House because\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">I have nowhere else to go\u2026wrong answer.\u00a0 If this is the only reason you are attending a halfway house program, you are attending for the wrong reason.\u00a0 We are only a temporary replacement for your family and friends.\u00a0 We are not a shelter for homeless men.\u00a0 The goal of a halfway house is to help patients interact with peers and to develop healthy social relationships in a safe environment.\u00a0 You can develop new life skills and coping techniques that can and will become your lifestyle before you are discharged and reintegrated into the community.\u00a0 Halfway houses require residents to be self-sufficient (i.e. hygiene and other basic self-care skills) and to be free of any severe physical impairment that would require ongoing medical care.\u00a0 If having nowhere else to go is one reason you are attending a halfway house, your success rate may be low for several reasons:\u00a0 1) you many have no commitment to the recovery process; 2) you may struggle with the structure of halfway house treatment, and 3) you may want to do what you want to do rather than what you need to do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">I need a small vacation\u2026wrong answer.\u00a0 A halfway house is not a hotel.\u00a0 As the name implies, a halfway house is a transitional treatment setting halfway between the intensive structured setting of an inpatient facility and independent living.\u00a0 Halfway houses are designed to help you to learn new behaviors and to practice a new lifestyle in a safe setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Another way is staffed by counselors, social workers and other health care professionals who have the background, training and education in the treatment area.\u00a0 Time spent both in and away from the House is highly structured.\u00a0 You are allowed to leave the facility for work, meetings and school.\u00a0 You are expected to keep you room clean and you will be assigned basic housekeeping chores as a part of your treatment.\u00a0 Attendance at on-site group therapy or support group meetings is a part of our program.\u00a0 If needing a small vacation is the reason you want to attend a Halfway House program, your success rate will be low for several reasons:\u00a0 1) you will be in a structured environment and you may not do what you want to do at all times, and 2) you will have responsibilities while you learn to live a clean and sober life.\u00a0 If you\u2019re not ready for this type of recovery program and you are not ready to surrender your past behaviors, you may want to attend a place that offers room service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">I need guidance on a daily basis for me to live a clean and sober life\u2026 .\u00a0 Perfect!\u00a0 Another Way has successfully impacted many lives for several years by helping residents to return to sober, productive living within their families and communities.\u00a0 Residents are provided opportunities to achieve quality sobriety with the help of our staff, by practicing adherence to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, by participating in a structured environment that offers support, guidance, counseling and caring and by living in a serene home atmosphere.\u00a0 There are no barriers to race, sex, religious beliefs or financial status for our clients.\u00a0 Another Way, Inc. is \u201cpeople helping people\u201d to restore their lives to \u201ca life worth living\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Becoming sober means more than not drinking or drugging.\u00a0 It means creating a whole new life and lifestyle.\u00a0 This is a tremendous task that requires structure, discipline, guidance and support.\u00a0 The task is made easier when there is a warm home environment, compassionate people to help you and a generous supply of AA and NA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The first 24 hours are getting acquainted with the facility, the rules and other clients.\u00a0 Our counselors will meet with you within these 24 hours.\u00a0 While in Phase One, you will start working on your discharge plan.\u00a0 We will help you to establish your goals so that the path to achieving these goals is clear for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Our program has Three Phases that we will help you to navigate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to set goals you want to accomplish while you are at Another Way.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Although your past must be addressed to help you to build a future, we will work within this first phase to assist you in placing your past behind you so that we can help you to create a brighter tomorrow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you set up a budget if needed.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We will help you to sort out the financial needs you may have when you are discharged from Another Way and, if you need, we will help you to set up a budget, help you to sort out your debts, help you to establish payment plan and to open a checking\/saving account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining your room in a neat and organized manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to resolve legal issues by contacting your probation officer, if necessary, by teaching you how to handle your legal concerns, by assisting you to communicate with authority figures respectfully and by helping you prepare for court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to identify your mental health, substance abuse\/dependency recovery needs and treatment goals through various assessments and screening tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to address your educational needs which can include preparing for your GED or assisting you with obtaining advanced education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to work on your housing needs so that when it is time for you to leave our program, you will have an alternative housing plan in place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to prepare for working when you are ready to advance to Phase II.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Before you can progress into the second phase, you need to have volunteered with Another Way at one of our volunteer placements.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Your self esteem will grow as a result of your being a productive, contributing member of society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to get a sponsor and encouraging you to use your support group even while you are in treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping you to learn and work Steps 1, 2, and 3.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Criteria for admission, treatment, completion and discharge<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Admission Criteria:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our facility accommodates men who are 21 years of age and older.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>An individual must have a chemical dependency diagnosis, and, for some, a co-occurring mental health disorder.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Admission to our treatment program requires that you have been in some form of drug and alcohol treatment within the past year and meet the criteria established by your insurance company<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Treatment Criteria:<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Those individuals who meet the admission criteria and who are admitted to Another Way will be assigned a primary counselor.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Your counselor will work with you and will direct your treatment.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Another Way asks that you be willing to focus totally on you, your treatment, recovery and your needs.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This means that you will <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">not <\/span><\/strong><\/b>become involved in any type or relationship while you are in treatment at Another Way.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Significant others (girlfriend, wives, life partners) with whom you have <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">lived with for more than ONE<\/span><\/strong><\/b> year and are not currently using chemicals and have substantial clean time may visit on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00pm-5:00pm.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Significant Other who you have <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">NOT<\/span><\/strong><\/b> lived with or who <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">DOES NOT<\/span><\/strong><\/b> have substantial clean time will <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">NOT <\/span><\/strong><\/b>be permitted to visit nor will you be granted permission to go out with a significant other during your stay at Another Way.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We ask that you be willing to communicate with her by phone or letter<b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Completion Criteria:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The length of stay may vary for each resident.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Discharge Criteria:<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>You will be discharged when you leave the treatment program of Another Way by one of the following categories:<\/p>\n<p>You may successfully discharge <b><i><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">program complete<\/span><\/strong><\/i><\/b> when you complete all treatment requirements and you have the recommendation of your primary counselor and the Treatment Team.<\/p>\n<p>You may be discharged <span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b><i><strong>ACA\/AMA <\/strong><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>when you have not completed your treatment requirements, you have not achieved your treatment goals but you choose to leave against the advice of staff.<\/p>\n<p>You may be <b><i><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Violation of these rules may result in therapeutic or administrative discharge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>Fighting<\/li>\n<li>Threatening or aggressive behaviors toward another resident, staff, or therapist are to be treated with respect which means no cursing, yelling in their faces, talking behind their backs, making fun of them.<\/li>\n<li>Possession of a controlled substance, alcohol, unauthorized prescription or medication<\/li>\n<li>Attempting to obtain or suspicion of obtaining a controlled substance, alcohol or unauthorized medications<\/li>\n<li>Having prescription and over the counter medications in your room without permission<\/li>\n<li>Using drugs and\/or alcohol while in treatment or having a urine positive for unauthorized drugs (this includes energy drinks)<\/li>\n<li>Leaving the facility without permission<\/li>\n<li>Creating or contributing to a negative environment within the community<\/li>\n<li>Failure to follow a directive given by the Treatment Team or a counselor.<\/li>\n<li>Continuous non-compliance and\/or a lack of participation in the treatment process<\/li>\n<li>Continuous violations of the House Rules<\/li>\n<li>Involvement in an exclusive relationship that is deemed to be detrimental to your treatment or to the treatment of another resident and creating a negative environment in the community<\/li>\n<li>Sexual misconduct<\/li>\n<li>Possession of a cell phone in phase 1-2<\/li>\n<li>Theft of any kind<\/li>\n<li>Having weapons or knives of any kind while in treatment<\/li>\n<li>Any new Tattoos or Body Art<\/li>\n<li>Joining or going to a gym or tanning facility<\/li>\n<li>Using tobacco products in undesignated areas or in building including having spittoon of any kind in your room.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The ONLY location for tobacco products to be used is on the client porch. This includes Electronic Cigarettes.<\/li>\n<li>Any acts or threats of violence to the animal assisted therapy pets.<\/li>\n<li>Eating of the pond life (turtles, fish, algae, goose, etc.) is prohibited<\/li>\n<li>Swimming in the pond is prohibited.<\/li>\n<li>Gambling or bribing of any kind including for responsibilities such as chores.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Re: Electronic Cigarettes<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">It came to my attention that clients have been inhaling electronic cigarettes in group.\u00a0 Another Way is supportive of our clients using tobacco cessation aids to stop smoking.\u00a0 We offer Tobacco Cessation classes on Tuesday\u2019s.\u00a0 We researched this topic and found: An electronic cigarette, also known as an e-cigarette, personal vaporizer or PV, is an <\/span><a title=\"Electronics\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electronics\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">electronic<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\"> inhaler that vaporizes a liquid solution into an <\/span><a title=\"Aerosol\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aerosol\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">aerosol<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\"> mist, simulating the act of <\/span><a title=\"Tobacco smoking\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tobacco_smoking\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">tobacco smoking<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. Electronic cigarettes are <\/span><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>no longer <\/strong><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">marketed as <\/span><\/span><\/span><a title=\"Smoking cessation\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Smoking_cessation\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">smoking cessation<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\"> aids or tobacco replacement in most countries. There may be similarities between conventional and some electronic cigarettes in the physical design and the <\/span><a title=\"Nicotine\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicotine\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">nicotine<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\"> release, which may approximate the same amount of nicotine as a conventional cigarette. There are many electronic cigarettes which do not resemble conventional cigarettes at all. The amount of nicotine contained can be chosen by the user, with some choosing no nicotine at all. Food and drink are <b><strong>not<\/strong><\/b> permitted in scheduled activities.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">If you interrupt groups (verbal interruption, sleeping, talking to the individual sitting beside you, have food or drink) you will receive the following consequences: 1<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">st<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> time 24 hour blackout, 2<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">nd<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> time 48 hour blackout, 3<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">rd<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> time 72 hour blackout, 4<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> time one week blackout, 5<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> time one month blackout. (If your radio is heard in the hallway outside your room it will be taken and clinical team will decide when it will be returned). Radios are not allowed in bathrooms, outside, or in the kitchen. NO PHONES CAN BE USED AS MP3 PLAYERS.<\/li>\n<li>You are responsible for making personal phone calls on the House phone.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Your counselor will only make calls that are related to case management matters.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>New residents will be allowed to make calls through their counselors during the first week but not during group and therapeutic times.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>All phone calls need to be kept to 15 minutes. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The following phone rules were designed to assist peers get equal time on the phone.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>A) Any client not on a phone blackout, total blackout, or new client blackout is allowed access to the client phone.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>All individuals will be allowed 3 phone calls to family, sober support, clean friends,<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>etc.(personal calls)<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>and 3 phone calls to schedule doctor appointments, talk to lawyers, probation officers, FACT, etc. (business calls).<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Personal phone calls cannot exceed 15 minutes; business calls will not have a time limit, but no matter the length of the phone calls it needs logged and counted as a call.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>B) As many personal phone calls as desired can be made within the 15 minute time limit as long as it does not go over the 15 minutes.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Every individual business phone call will count as one call no matter the length.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>C) There must be a 15 minute separation between phone time even if no one is waiting for the phone. D) Before picking up the phone, the call must be logged.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Any calls made or received must be logged on the phone log at the time the call is placed or received. E) Incoming calls count toward the client total phone calls for the day.(Incoming call and 2 outgoing calls equal the three call limit) If you get an incoming call after using up your call times, you must wait until the next day to take the call.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Do not answer incoming calls if you used all your calls.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Have your peer take a message for incoming calls over your limit.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>F) Any calls made in excess of this stated limit must be approved by your therapist prior to making the call. You are not permitted to go shopping nor have visitors on your first week at Another Way.<\/li>\n<li>You need to discuss all scheduled appointments (medical, legal, community agencies, etc.) with your counselor, complete a transportation form and return it to your counselor 24 hours in advance. You must sign a release for every outside place you have an appointment also you will need to sign a release at the appointment, so we can provide a continuum of care. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Bring a note back from your appointment stating that you attended your appointment. If you do not go to your scheduled appointment you are at risk of being discharged.<\/li>\n<li>F.A.C.T. transportation is available to most residents.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is your responsibility to call F.A.C.T. and arrange for transportation to and from medical appointments.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>F.A.C.T. will transport within a twenty mile radius. You should attempt to not schedule appointments on Tuesday due to primary group. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>You must call 24 hours in advance and before 2 pm.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Pack a lunch and take something to read as you will be out most of the day.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You are not permitted to enter Wal-Mart or any other place FACT may stop.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sit outside on the benches until FACT returns. You are not permitted to smoke, chew, curse, or bother others on the FACT van.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is a privlege that you and your peers do not want to loss, so please be mindful of others.<\/li>\n<li>If you are not eligible for F.A.C.T. transportation, you should designate members from your immediate family, your sponsor, or someone from your support group who can transport you to and from appointments. You will need to provide your therapist with a transportation request form 24 working hours in advance. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>This means if you have an appointment on Monday you must place it in your therapist box on Thursday-Due to therapist not working the weekend. If at any time you are unclear on how to complete your assigned task an ABC member would be more than happy to assist and staff is always available to assist.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Chores will rotate and be posted in the dining room on the cork board. All chore changes must be approved by an ABC member.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Chores are started at 9:00 pm and checked by all ABC and staff at 9:30 pm.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You must have your chore complete and be standing at your chore during chore check until your chore is checked off.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Once your chore is checked and not completed correctly, you will be given one chance to complete it or it will be considered undone. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>Your chore needs to be done every day. Every Monday the chore list is updated. In the winter the yard crew needs to make sure there is a path to the cars and the door area is cleaned by 7:30am. Block Chores are completed Saturday morning before meditation.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The house is divided into areas and individuals are listed as teams.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is to be a group activity and everyone needs to work together to <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">super<\/span><\/strong><\/b> clean the house for everyone\u2019s benefit (wash walls, clean stove, etc.).<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Bedroom inspections are done every morning and weekend first by ABC members and then by staff. No snacks are to be eaten in the bedrooms.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>NO ONE is permitted to eat after 10:00pm<\/li>\n<li>You need to take your medications on time in the designated area and not to be taken from that area.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Bring a drink with you so that you can take your medication. YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO SHARE DRINKS THIS IS HOW DISEASE IS SPREAD. Medication times are 7:30am (Monday-Friday), 8:00am (Saturday and Sunday) 3:00pm, 9:30 pm and 10:30pm. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>If you take medication 4 times a day, get your noon medication at morning med time and you are responsible for taking the dose as scheduled.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Any injection (insulin, etc.) medication taken at times other than scheduled medication time will be arranged with staff.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you take medications as needed or need anything related to your health see staff and they will assist you.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you forgot to take your medication please notify staff for assistance. It will not be logged on medication sheets but held for you.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is important that you ask your therapist and\/or pharmacist to ensure no alcohol or other addictive components, or medication that will interact with current medications or drug screen.<\/li>\n<li>If you are in Phase I, you must be transported by staff when you leave the facility grounds. You are NOT permitted to leave with visitors, unless approved by therapist and no longer than two hours. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>If you are in Phase II, you may leave the facility from 12:00pm-9:00pm on Saturday and Sunday with the approval of your counselor and the Treatment Team.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you are in Phase III, you may leave the facility from 4:00pm-12:00am on Friday; 12:00pm-12:00am on Saturday; and 12:00pm-11:00pm on Sunday with designated immediate family member. You must complete a visitor list for individuals coming onto Another Way grounds, including sponsor.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The visitor list is located outside the medication room.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They need to be given to your therapist on Thursday before noon prior to the visiting weekend.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>A visitor list only needs completed one time during your entire stay.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If a visitor is denied approval by treatment team you can submit another visitor list after you progress to the next phase.<\/li>\n<li>If you are in Phases II or III, you may attend AA\/NA meetings with your sponsors or members of your recovery support group.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They must sign you out and back into the House.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is to go to the meeting only. You need permission for any other activities eating out, shopping, and going to sponsor house, etc.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You need written permission from your therapist to be out after 9:00 pm which is the curfew.<\/li>\n<li>Every client is to sign in and out each and every time you leave the facility.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Anytime you leave by van, F.A.C.T. Bus, on pass, with family, support group, sponsor, or member of staff or participating in activities outside such as basketball, fishing, walking up the hill you need to sign out and in.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>ABSOLUTELY NO ONE is permitted to sign anyone out or in, you are to sign yourself in and out. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>When signing out for a meeting, be sure to write the name of the meeting you are attending on the sign out log.<\/li>\n<li>You must attend at least 7 meetings per week. AA\/NA in house meetings are held at 7:00pm. All inside meetings must last at least one hour.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Approved outside meetings are posted on the bulletin board in the dining room, days, locations and departure times are listed, and it is your responsibility to be there. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>If the meeting is not on the list or marked off the list, it will not count as a meeting.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If your sponsor or support group member would like to give his lead, please announce it in the morning meeting and write his name on the calendar in the dining room.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you are at the end of your treatment stay we ask that you give your lead your last week.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Please announce the day you will give your lead and write it on the calendar in the dining room.<\/li>\n<li>There are to be no heaters, candles, coffee pots, air conditioners, refrigerators, Christmas lights, etc. in the bedrooms.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>These are fire hazards and you will be immediately asked to remove them. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>Please do not post things on the outside of your door the only thing on the outside of the door should be your name in case of emergency.<\/li>\n<li>You are to sign in for every meeting held in house.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is important that you do so to get credit for that activity.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will also need to sign in for volunteer work or outside presenters that come in.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you attend GED you will be given a sign in sheet to have initialed at each visit. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT SIGN ANYONE ELSE INTO THE MEETING-THE ATTENDANCE SHEETS ARE CONSIDERED LEGAL VERIFICATION THAT YOU ATTENDED. The kitchen manager will assist you and assure everyone has food. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>No personal food is to be kept in the Another Way coolers.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Client food is to be kept in the client refrigerators\/freezers, no exceptions.<\/li>\n<li>Wrap up is held at 10:00p.m.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is similar to a 10<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> step.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The format is in your admit packet. We are asking that you share on the questions listed. It is important to get in the practice of this step.<\/li>\n<li>The couch area is off limits between 8:00-4:00pm Monday- Friday. Feet are not permitted on the couch or hanging over the edge of the arm of the couch. It is also important that you do not throw things or rough house. The fishing hours are 3:00pm-9:00pm (or dusk). If you do these behaviors the following consequences will happen. 1<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">st<\/span><\/sup> time 24 hour blackout, 2<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">nd<\/span><\/sup> time 48 hour blackout, 3<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">rd<\/span><\/sup> time 72 hour phone blackout, 4<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> time week phone blackout. Leaning back on the dining room and group room chairs 1 hour room restriction per occurrence. It is important we take care of the furniture and building in order to provide these items to the next admit.<\/li>\n<li>The TV and game systems can be turned on after 4:00pm. The TV needs to be turned off at curfew.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>No TV shows that show drug use, violence, or sexually explicate material are permitted. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>No inappropriate games for example (grand theft auto, violent games, gambling games, combat games) <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>No rated R videos or DVDs.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You are not permitted to watch music stations (MTV, BET, CMT, VH1, etc.), Jerry Springer, Intervention, American Gangsters, Combat Movies, Wilfred, Breaking Bad, or violent shows.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Remember, we are a co-occurring facility and each client is at a different level in his treatment. If this rule is violated the TV privileges for the house will be restricted based on severity.<\/li>\n<li>It is important to work on our communication patterns while at Another Way.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you are using inappropriate language (f word, etc.) you will receive one hour room restriction per occurrence.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Excessive use will result in 24 hour total blackout. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Study Hall is Monday-Friday 12:30-1:00pm this is a time when the house is quiet to work on assignments and read the big book\/basic text.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You need to have educational material at this group (no magazines) and be actively working on the material. The phone is not to be used and should be turned off during study hall. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>If you disrupt the group by talking the following consequences will occur: 1<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">st<\/span><\/sup> time 1 hour longer off room restriction, 2<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">nd<\/span><\/sup> time 2 hour off room restriction, 3<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">rd<\/span><\/sup> time 4 hours off room restriction, 4<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> time weekend restriction\/ no visitors. An ABC member will be responsible for monitoring this group.<\/li>\n<li>There is to be no one in anyone else\u2019s bedroom, not even with that person\u2019s permission. The following consequences will occur: 1<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">st<\/span><\/sup> time 24 hour blackout, 2<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">nd<\/span><\/sup> time 48 hour blackout, 3<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">rd<\/span><\/sup> time 72 hour blackout, 4<sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> time one week blackout.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>We have a laundry room schedule which goes by bedrooms; this insures everyone has a chance to do laundry.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you need to do laundry and it is not your day, please ask staff for permission.<\/li>\n<li>Phase 2 and 3 leaving with alumni of Another Way, Inc. needs to be approved by your therapist.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sober Support is defined as gentlemen with over one year of clean time who are active in the fellowship and have their own sponsor.<\/li>\n<li>You are not permitted to use the lawn care equipment (for example mower, trimmers, snow blower, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Activity hours for basketball, fishing, horseshoes, etc. are 3 pm to 9 pm or dusk whichever comes first.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>No one is permitted to fish off the deck.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Clean up your equipment when leaving the area.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Do not leave your fishing gear out while you are not near it. <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>Please take care of the activity equipment to provide the same privileges to the next admits.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Bedtime is 11 pm Sunday through Thursday and 12 am (midnight) Friday and Saturday.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Curfew for all phases is 9 pm special permission needs given in advance by counselor if you are expecting to be out past curfew.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>No smoking between 11 pm and 6 am due to the alarm system.<\/li>\n<li>Clients can\u2019t sell, lend, or borrow any personal propriety to other peers.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In order to provide a therapeutic environment this rule must be followed.<\/li>\n<li>Clients are not permitted to have elective surgery.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Please review all medical procedures with your therapist.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>NO NARCOTIC MEDICATIONS ARE PERMITTED<\/li>\n<li>The kitchen is off limits unless you are a kitchen manager or the kitchen is your chore.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The meals will be served at the tables one person from each table will come to the window and get plates for the table. It is important that we eat together like a family. If you would like seconds you can come to the window after the kitchen manager had a chance to eat. This is in order to prevent transmission of disease. On the weekend the hours will be posted when the kitchen is open and you must make sure you clean up after yourself.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span>When clinical staff leaves you are to conduct yourself accordingly.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>A slogan that may be helpful is that \u201cyou may be the only big book someone reads today\u201d.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This means no pranks, inappropriate humor or destroying propriety.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">ANTI-BULLYING POLICY<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBullying\u201d or \u201charassment\u201d is any gesture or written, verbal, graphic, or physical act (including electronically transmitted acts \u2013 i.e., cyberbullying, through the use of internet, cell phone, personal digital assistant (pda), computer, or wireless handheld device) that is reasonably perceived as being dehumanizing, intimidating, hostile, humiliating, threatening, or otherwise likely to evoke fear of physical harm or emotional distress and may be motivated either by bias or prejudice based upon any actual or perceived characteristic, such as race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression; or a mental, physical, or sensory disability or impairment; or by any other distinguishing characteristic, or is based upon association with another person who has or is perceived to have any distinguishing characteristic. Bullying and harassment also include forms of retaliation against individuals who report or cooperate in an investigation under this policy. Such behaviors are considered to be bullying or harassment whether they take place on or off<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Another Way\u2019s property, at any AA\/NA sponsored function, or in a Another Way vehicle or at any time or place where a client\u2019s imminent safety or over-all well being may be at issue. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u201cBullying\u201d is conduct that meets all of the following criteria: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u2022 is reasonably perceived as being dehumanizing, intimidating, hostile, humiliating, threatening, or otherwise likely to evoke fear of physical harm or emotional distress; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u2022 is directed at one or more clients; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u2022 is conveyed through physical, verbal, technological or emotional means; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span>substantially interferes with therapeutic opportunities, benefits, or programs of one or more clients; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u2022 adversely affects the ability of a client to participate in or benefit from the Another Way\u2019s<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>therapeutic<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>programs or activities by placing the client in reasonable fear of physical harm or by causing emotional distress; and,<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>is based on a client\u2019s actual or perceived distinguishing characteristic (see above), or is based on an association with another person who has or is perceived to have any of these characteristics. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another Way does not allow bullying, harassment, and cyberbullying. Whether in the building, outside meetings, on premises, in the vehicles.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Bullying or harassment that is not initiated at a location defined above is covered by this policy if the incident results in a potentially material or substantial disruption of the therapeutic<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <\/span>environment for one or more clients and\/or the orderly day-to-day operations of Another Way. <\/span>Consequences and appropriate remedial actions for a client who engages in one or more acts of bullying or harassment may range from positive behavioral interventions up to and including discharge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Van Rules and Expectations<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Please remember that you represent Another Way every time you leave the facility in the van. When at outside meetings or shopping you are <i>expected to <\/i>act like a gentleman. Should you find yourself in a tough situation ask a peer or staff member to help you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">1) No smoking or chewing in the van. You will rarely (if ever) be in the van for more than 45 minutes so this shouldn&#8217;t be an issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">2) No cursing. If it isn&#8217;t acceptable in the house then it isn&#8217;t acceptable outside the house. When in doubt you can apply this to any behavior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">3) No talking to women. If a woman approaches you, you are <i>expected <\/i>to politely explain your situation and walk away. Should she persist you are <i>expected <\/i>to go to the staff member who drove you and inform them of your issue. Remember, it is your responsibility to avoid contact with women while in treatment. Reminder you are not permitted to talk\u00a0 with females when shopping, going to church, doctor appointments, etc. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">4) No yelling out the windows, banging on the windows or otherwise trying to communicate with people outside the van.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">5) We arrive 30 minutes before and stay 15 minutes after the meeting. Use this time to meet people in recovery, get phone numbers, etc. Standing around talking to each other is a waste of your time. You deserve recovery and building a support group of people with substantial clean time (1 year or more) is a crucial part of your foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">6) The van will not stop anywhere on the way down or back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">7) Keep the inside of the van clean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">CELL PHONE RULES<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">You must be in Phase III to have a cell phone.\u00a0 If you are caught with a cell phone while not in phase III or while your cell phone privileges have been revoked, you are subject to discharge.\u00a0 Having a cell phone is a responsibility and a privilege; therefore, can be taken away at any time.\u00a0 Cell phones are to be used to help with discharge planning such as job searching and house searching.\u00a0 SOCIAL MEDIA-facebook\/internet access is not permitted at Another Way.\u00a0 If you has IPODS that receive WIFI you are not permitted to access it.\u00a0 When at careerlink or outside the agency you are not permitted to post or check your facebook account. If you need to access these accounts see your therapist for permission and further instructions. font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You are the most important person at this time and identifying what your needs are to build a solid recovery program is critical.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>While in Orientation, you will become stable in your recovery, gain support through your peers in the House and you will learn about your disease of addiction and your mental health disorder.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will begin to develop a strong base of support in the 12 Step Recovery Program.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will identify your core issues and recovery needs and you will establish your long and short term goals.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li>To begin your recovery journey towards building a solid foundation for working the total program of recovery through personal assessments and increasing your understanding of the principles of Steps One through Three of the 12 Step Program of Recovery.\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The process of orientation is to:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Identify and educate you on your substance dependency\/mental health disorder<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Educate you on symptoms\/behaviors\/medication related to your substance dependency\/mental health disorder<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Educate you on medication compliance<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Educate you on managing maladaptive behaviors<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Educate you on the need to share your feelings and thoughts and asking for help<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span>Educate you on the relapse process (substance dependency and mental health), core issues, using patterns of behavior, triggers, high risk situations and defense mechanisms<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Educate you on the principles of the 12 Step Program, Steps 1-3 and how to apply them to your recovery and to everyday situations<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span>Educate you on the importance of developing and utilizing a recovery support system, expanding your circle of support by attending AA\/NA meetings and obtaining a sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You will be able to move out of <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Phase I<\/span><\/strong><\/b> when your orientation goals are met.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Your counselor, the Treatment Team and your peers will determine when you are ready to move into <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Phase II<\/span><\/strong><\/b> of your treatment and recovery program.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Consideration will be given to your successful completion of your treatment goals and therapeutic assignments, all peer group assignments completed, compliance with the Facility and House rules, taking direction and demonstrating a working knowledge of how to apply Steps 1-3 to recovery and daily situations, read the first 164 pages of the big book, gained and utilized a sponsor,<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>have at least 15 numbers of sober supports with over one year clean and sober, utilizing your recovery support group and completion of your assigned chores.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>To move into the next phase of your treatment, you prepare a request that outlines your treatment goals, core issues and the recovery needs that you have addressed in <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Phase I<\/span><\/strong><\/b> as well as those needs, issues and goals that you will address in <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Phase II<\/span><\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">PHASE II: Healing and Growth Phase<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The goals of this phase are:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>You will be given more freedom and responsibility during this phase of your treatment and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You will be in <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Phase II<\/span><\/strong><\/b> for approximately 7-8 weeks or until your treatment goals are successfully met.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Consideration will be given to your compliance with the facility and house rules, completion of your assigned chores, how you take direction, completion of your therapeutic\/treatment goals, medication compliance, your demonstration of a working knowledge of how to apply Steps 4-7 to your recovery and to daily situations and your utilization of your recovery support group, finished reading the big book, gained a home group and is active in the business meetings.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>To move to the next phase of your treatment, prepare a request that outlines the treatment goals, core issues and recovery needs you have addressed in <b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The goals of this phase are:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>To enable you to have additional freedom to prepare to meet your long term goals<\/li>\n<li>To continue to seek solutions that assist you to work through cores issues, managing your substance dependency and mental health disorders and recovery needs<\/li>\n<li>To complete Steps 8-12 and to demonstrate a working knowledge of how to apply the 12 Steps to your recovery<\/li>\n<li>To develop a recovery plan of action for high risk situations, relapse patterns and managing your mental health disorder<\/li>\n<li>To complete a continuing care plan designed to provide for a smooth transition into a life outside of Another Way<\/li>\n<li>To finalize discharge plans:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Decide to return home or to relocate<\/li>\n<li>Secure housing<\/li>\n<li>Secure employment<\/li>\n<li>Pursue continuing education\/vocational options<\/li>\n<li>Complete and review recovery plan with counselor<\/li>\n<li>Complete and review continuing care plan with counselor<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate outpatient services\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You will present yourself to your peers and to the Treatment Team to request Program Complete status by reviewing your goals and accomplishments and by responding appropriately to their questions and\/or concerns.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; We all have participated in this, yet most of us say we don&#8217;t like it. In order to create a more therapeutic environment, we the undersigned are making a commitment to change our atmosphere to be gossip free and chronic complaining free. Gossip v. Rumor or talk of a personal, sensational, or intimate nature. A person who habitually spreads intimate or private rumors or facts. Trivial, chatty talk or writing. A person that makes excuses, blames, and justifies behaviors.<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You will notice that gossip and complaining are verbs which means it is something you DO. That also means that is something you choose to do &#8211; and you can choose NOT to do it. You enter into gossip or complaining by choice \u2014 you can opt out of the activity. ln order to end gossip and complaining<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>means to end a particular type of communications \u2014 peer to peer, peer to staff, peer to sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Gossip always involves a person who is not present.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Unwelcome and negative gossip involved criticizing another person<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Gossip often is about conjecture that can injure another person`s credibility, reputation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Complaining causes distention among peers.<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Chronic complaining causes peers to pick sides. Not speak <i>or insinuate <\/i>another person\u2019s name when that person is not present unless it is to<\/p>\n<p>Compliment.<\/p>\n<p>2. Refuse to participate when another mentions a person who is not present in a negative light. l<\/p>\n<p>will change the subject or tell them l have agreed not to talk about another.<\/p>\n<p>3. Choose not to respond to negativity and confront my peers when they begin to complain and make derogatory statements about any person in the agency.<\/p>\n<p>4. While out at meetings or on the phone, speak to people about others or procedures in a derogatory light. If I have feelings, l will select to talk to my therapist or sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>5. lf another peer does something unethical, incorrect, against procedures, or disruptive l will use the proper channels to report this to the person in authority to take corrective action.<\/p>\n<p>6. l will be open and willing to take suggestions and remember recovery is about change which at time is uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">HEALTH AND HYGIENE<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>I agree that there is to be no use of alcohol or drugs while a resident at Another Way.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Only medications prescribed by a doctor and approved by staff are acceptable. <span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b><strong>I AGREE TO HAND IN ALL WRITTEN SCRIPTS TO STAFF AND DO NOT GET THEM FILLED. <\/strong><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Staff will make a copy of the script for my record and send it to the pharmacy.<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0 <b><strong>I WILL GET APPROVAL BY MY THERAPIST FOR ALL OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATION AND HAND THEM INTO STAFF.<\/strong><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I understand that I am responsible for personal cleanliness and I agree to keep my personal quarters and myself clean and neat. These items will remain locked and you will not be able to retrieve items until discharge. If is choose to lay down during scheduled activities I understand that I will not be permitted to go shopping, outside meeting, volunteering etc. for one week. The volume is to be kept at a level that is not disturbing to other residents or staff.<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you can hear the radio in the hallway outside your room it is too loud. I understand that part of my responsibilities at Another Way will be to help in preparation of meals and clean up after meals. Most suicides are associated with depression, substance abuse disorders, and other forms of mental illness. The presence of more than one psychiatric diagnosis (or the co-occurrence of a psychiatric diagnosis and substance abuse) and affective disorders, particularly depression, are major risk factors for suicide. Another Way contains large numbers of people with the types of mental health problems associated with elevated risk of suicide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Recognizing the Warning Signs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The most effective way to prevent suicides in facilities involves the systematic efforts discussed under the section below \u201cResponding to the Warning Signs.\u201d \u00a0The warning signs are listed below and if you or another peer have any of the symptoms listed below it is important to notify your therapist.\u00a0 If you\u00a0 or a peer have thoughts or a plan to hurt yourself it is very important to notify the staff on duty.\u00a0 All staff are aware of how to handle this situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Role of Another Way in Preventing Suicide<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The following warning signs may mean someone is at risk for suicide. font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Ensure breakfast dishes are rinsed out and put in dishwasher every morning before morning meditation<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">ABC Committee<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The ABC Committee is a form of community government operated by the clients of Another Way.\u00a0 The committee is composed of peers selected by clinical team.\u00a0 The members of the ABC Committee can be any phase of their treatment.\u00a0 The members of the ABC Committee perform the following functions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Members of the community discuss their needs, concerns, and suggestions with their ABC representatives who then take it the ABC Meetings which are Monday-Friday at 8:00 am with clinical team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Members of the ABC Committee coordinate morning meditation, peer to peer, wrap-up, chore checks, bedroom checks, monitor study hall and are the eyes and ears when staff are not present.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Members of the ABC Committee check chores daily and report to staff; and they also do room checks to make sure personal spaces are kept clean and organized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The ABC Committee helps the men plan various group activities and functions in the house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The ABC Committee suggests\u00a0 needs, concerns, and any suggestions they may have for the house.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The members of the ABC Committee monitor inside and outside meetings and inform any problems that need addressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The ABC Committee monitors the progress of consequences and write them on the board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The ABC Committee reports any concerns they may have with a peer leaving, or concern for a peer\u2019s well being. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Monitor that individuals clean the grill and grill area after use and alert staff if any issues with this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Change propane tanks as needed and inform staff when propane needs refilled<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Communicate with maintenance liaison if maintenance to the grill is needed<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Alert staff of any misuse of the grills or grill utensils.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Maintenance Liaison<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">This position was created as a result of several clients informing the maintenance crew of the same issue with the physical facility.\u00a0 In order to decrease confusion, the maintenance liaison is to alert the maintenance person of any maintenance issues in writing when found.\u00a0 Monitor the facility and write up maintenance slips for the maintenance crew to address the issue.\u00a0 Write up maintenance concerns of the community.\u00a0 For example, peer is complaining his dresser drawer needs tightened.\u00a0 Or, kitchen managers advise you that the dishwasher is not working.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Chore Coordinators<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Arrange for chore changes every Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Arrange for block chore changes the Monday prior to the first Saturday of every month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Record the chore changes and post on the bulletin board in the dining room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">We are a non-profit organization with little extra funds to provide for extracurricular activities such as sports equipment, \u2018field trips,\u2019 etc.\u00a0 The fundraiser coordinator oversees and participates in the fundraising activity.\u00a0 Past years fundraisers include recycling cans, hoagie sales, cookie sales, and worm sales.\u00a0 The coordinator will attend shopping trips with staff to purchase the desired items that have been agreed upon with the community and staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Wellness Center<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Disease is easily spread in a communal setting such as a residency halfway house.\u00a0 To limit the germ spreading, at least two individuals will be designated to disinfect community used items.\u00a0 Those items include but not limited to:\u00a0 all door handles (both sides), kitchen door (both sides), light switches, telephones, community used pens and markers, staplers, etc.\u00a0 Diluted bleach spray bottles kept in the supply closet and paper towels or rags are to be used for the disinfecting.\u00a0 Bleach is diluted 10:1.\u00a0 10 parts water and one part bleach (Not much bleach needed!)\u00a0 This procedure needs to be done twice daily, morning and evening.\u00a0 Please initial on the date and time sheet after completing the task.\u00a0 The sign off sheet is located on the staff bathroom door.\u00a0 Any questions please ask ABC or staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">If peers are not quiet the meditation monitor will ask them to sit at the tables and wait for clinical team<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">The mediation monitor will announce the format of the morning meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The mediation monitor will monitor the music and stop the music if individuals begin talking and restart the music when quiet.
